Are Google Ads worth it? What small businesses need to know

For many small business owners, investing in advertising can feel like a big leap, especially when budgets are tight. If you’ve been wondering whether Google Ads are actually worth it, you’re not alone. It’s a common question and one that deserves a straightforward answer. 

What are Google Ads?  Simply put, Google Ads are paid advertisements that appear on Google search results or other Google partner sites. The key difference from traditional ads is that with Google Ads, you only pay when someone clicks on your ad, not just because it’s shown. This is called pay-per-click (PPC) advertising.

  • Measurable results  One of the biggest advantages is tracking. Google Ads gives you real-time data on how many people clicked your ad, what keywords brought them there, and how many completed an action like calling or buying. This transparency means you know exactly what your advertising is doing for your business.  


Are there downsides?  

Like any marketing, Google Ads isn’t a magic fix. It takes some time to set up properly and optimise. Without the right keywords or ad copy, you might spend money with little return. That’s why many businesses work with experts or take time to learn the platform. 


Costs per click can vary widely depending on your industry and location. Highly competitive industries might cost more per click, but even then, the ability to target and track conversions usually outweighs the cost.
